The 9th edition of Bangkok Design Week (BKKDW2026) aims to elevate Bangkok as a Creative Hub of Asia, fostering collaboration among designers and international networks from over 17 countries in Asia and Europe. The festival's theme, "DESIGN S/O/S," emphasizes utilizing design and creativity as essential tools for national development. It provides a platform for designers, artists, and creative entrepreneurs to exchange knowledge, technology, and business models, thereby creating new business ecosystems, attracting investments, facilitating business matching, and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai products globally. Key international collaborations and projects highlighted include: - Italia Reloaded: "FROM LEGACY TO THE FUTURE. RESTORATION AS A DESIGN PROJECT" by the Italian Cultural Institute and Italian Embassy, focusing on restoration as sustainability and cultural asset management, drawing connections between Florence and Bangkok. - Philippines: "LAHI (Heritage): The Philippine Fashion Exhibition" by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippines and the Philippine Embassy, using fashion for economic and creative diplomacy, and exploring co-creation opportunities. - Japan/Qatar: "Ephemeral Sounds of the Gulf" by Erika Tsuchiya, a multimedia artist from VCUarts Qatar, exploring themes of permanence and impermanence through biomaterial records and sustainable practices in the music industry. - Thailand/Taiwan: "People Pavilion" by Urban Ally and HAS design and research, transforming street light poles into intelligent public architecture, addressing tropical climate needs for shade and light through "Infrastructure Upcycling." - Hong Kong: "HONG KONG: Projecting Future Heritage" exhibition (originally from Venice Biennale Architettura), curated by Sunnie S.Y.
